Ultrasounds

Real-Time Insight into Your Pet’s Health

Ultrasounds for Pets in Colorado Springs

real-time views of your pet’s internal organs and soft tissues

Ultrasound imaging provides real-time views of your pet’s internal organs and soft tissues. At Fillmore Veterinary Hospital, we use ultrasound technology to diagnose abdominal conditions, evaluate heart function, guide procedures, and monitor pregnancies — all without surgery or sedation. If your pet needs an ultrasound in Colorado Springs, we’re here for you!

Non-Invasive Internal Imaging

Real-Time Insights into Organ Health

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues. Unlike X-rays, which mainly show bones and solid structures, ultrasound excels at visualizing soft tissues and organs like the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, intestines, and heart. The real-time nature of ultrasound enables our veterinarians to monitor organ function, observe blood flow, and guide biopsies or fluid-collection procedures.

We commonly use ultrasound to determine the underlying cause of vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain, and urinary problems. It helps us diagnose conditions like bladder stones, kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatitis, intestinal obstructions, tumors, and heart disease. We also perform pregnancy ultrasounds to confirm successful breeding, count the number of puppies or kittens, and assess fetal health.

Limited system ultrasounds can be completed the same day, but more extensive ultrasounds and echos would be with our traveling ultrasound team.

Safe and Comfortable

Ultrasound is completely painless and poses no risk to your pet. The procedure simply requires shaving a small area of fur and applying gel to help sound waves travel through tissue. Most pets tolerate ultrasound examination well without sedation, though anxious pets or those with painful conditions may benefit from light sedation to help them stay still. In many cases, we can complete the exam and discuss findings with you during the same visit.
